Climate Solidarity - Scream & Shout about it!

Hey All, I’m Mel Reynolds Suffolk Amal Youth Officer and YAC member.

 

At the weekend of 23^rd July I went on a Climate Solidarity course to help better my knowledge about what it’s about and what will happen and how doing my/our bit at home and work that could change the future generations and for our planet. It was an eye opener!

 

What is Climate Solidarity?

 

Climate Solidarity is a trade union response to climate change. It's about learning, working and acting together to help make the kind of society we want to live in.

 

 Did you know that?

 

The first scientific paper to warn of dangerous Global warming was April 1896. Climate change was first mentioned at a TUC Conference in 1972 First mention of Climate change on the UK National evening news  in 1983 190 nations signed the climate change convention committing them to action in 1992.

 

These were just some of the things I learned. As a youth myself J I think we all need to scream and shout about this subject from the rooftops, the older generation’s attitude is “oh well I wont be here to see it”; but it’s now our future and our children’s future. So it’s down to us to make sure that we can and we need to start by encouraging people to:

·         Recycle

·         Turn off electrical items if not using them

·         Don’t print unnecessary paper items

·         Walk/bike instead of driving

 

We all need to get involved and spread the word that this is happening; this is for real and we need to do something about it.
