Young members get political
Over 70 young trade unionists and Young Labour members descended on the Mechanics Institute in Manchester over the weekend for a political event organised by the CWU's North West and North East regions.
Manchester City MP Lucy Powell opened the weekend with a rousing speech on the virtues of getting involved in the Labour Party from a young age and explained that it's not just about attending boring meetings but becoming involved in the community, your workplace and helping the local party during campaigns. Starting out as a young councillor herself, Lucy is now one of the youngest MPs in the House of Commons.
Kicking off with a Question Time session, members of the panel - Lindsay Hoyle MP, Lisa Nandy MP, Jonathan Reynolds MP, Cllr Sandra Walmsley, Richard Angell, deputy director at Progress and CWU national officer Simon Sapper - answered a range of topical and hard-hitting social and politically related questions from delegates.
