Win a superb camera and see your work on public display

Are you an amateur photographer? Would you like to see your work showcased at a national exhibition?

Our friends at the British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) are urging budding photographers to send in photos on the theme "The Post Office in the UK". The best among them will be showcased at the prestigious Post Office in Pictures national exhibition alongside a selection of images sourced from the BPMA's vast collection documenting Britain from the 1930s - 80s.

Not only that, the winner will also receive a top-of-the-range Nikon D3100 camera - from Swindon-based audiovisual retailer Sight 2 Sound.

Entrants are invited to submit, before September 9, "an inspiring image that illustrates the theme and evokes curiosity to find out more about what is pictured in the photo."

A panel of judges will select a winner, who will receive the camera and will also feature in the BPMA's upcoming national exhibition at Swindon's Post Modern Gallery in October and November. Featuring a fascinating window into some of the more unusual, unexpected and unseen activities of the Post Office, its people and items sent through the post, the exhibition will also feature a specially commissioned contemporary art installation, inspired by the archive, from Swindon-based artists, Artsite Ltd.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on 9th September 2011. For details on how to enter please visit The British Postal Museum & Archive competition.

To coincide with the exhibition and the competition the BPMA has re-produced a range of beautiful black and white greeting cards featuring photographs from their unique collections, originally commissioned as publicity material in the 1930s.
