Manchester marches against the cuts
Around 35,000 protestors, including CWU members, took to the streets of Manchester on Sunday to protest against government-imposed austerity measures.
Coinciding with the start of the Conservative Party conference in the city, the marchers' "unite and fight" placards delivered a message of solidarity against pay freezes, cuts and attacks on public services.
The TUC-organised march and rally called for the alternative - for jobs, growth and justice - and against rising unemployment, cuts in living standards and economic stagnation.
Having previously descended on Birmingham to coincide with the start of the Liberal Democrats conference, the protesters' message was the same but the feeling of solidarity and defiance amongst the marchers was stronger than ever.
Addressing the crowd, Manchester Central Labour MP, Tony Lloyd said: "This government is slashing billions and billions from our public services. Even top Tories are calling on George Osborne to go for a proper Plan B and go for growth."
