CWU Conference: 22nd – 26th May 2011

The UK's biggest communications union - the Communication Workers Union - annual conference opens this Sunday 22 May. Over 800 delegates and visitors from postal, telecommunications and financial services industries will be in Bournemouth to attend. Political and industrial issues affecting the union's 211,000 members will be discussed and voted on.

Highlights:

  • Monday 12:40: Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls will address the conference
  • Monday 15:10 Keynote speech from general secretary Billy Hayes
  • Monday lunch: Lord Bill McKenzie, Labour Shadow Health and Safety Minister speaks at fringe meeting 13:00 - 14:00
  • Keynote speeches from senior deputy general secretary Tony Kearns (Monday), deputy general secretaries Dave Ward and Andy Kerr (Tuesday), and president Davie Bowman
  • Tuesday 11:45: Guest speaker Professor Phil Taylor from the University of Strathclyde to speak about Performance Management
  • Tuesday: Motion on Royal Mail modernisation and effect of privatisation including discussion on possible industrial action
  • Sunday: Fundraisers for CWU Humanitarian Aid running non-stop from John O'Groats to Land's End will make a detour to drop-in

CWU conference 2011 is being held at the Bournemouth International Centre, Exeter Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5BH, from Sunday 22 May to Thursday 26 May. The business divides into General and Industrial conferences on the following dates:

22 May: Rules Revision conference

23 May: General Conference

24 - 26 May: Postal Constituencies Conference

Telecoms and Financial Services Conference
