CWU at Guilfest
Union activists took the fight against public service cuts and
Royal Mail privatisation to the sun-drenched Guilfest music
festival last weekend, mixing pop with politics as the CWU
supported public-sector union Unison in their Unison Zone for the
second year running. Activists from the south east region ran
stalls packed with information on CWU and spoke to hundreds of
festival-goers about our union and the campaign to keep Royal Mail
in public ownership.
Among a variety of bands, debates, poetry and petitions, CWU senior deputy general secretary Tony Kearns lead a debate on keeping Royal Mail in the public sector and spoke in Sunday's key debate with Dave Prentis, Unison general secretary, on defending public services, while CWU youth chair Kye Dudd spoke about the importance of unions to young workers.
