CWU Annual Conference - New Delegates Shown the Ropes

The now-regular briefing for new delegates to Annual Conference took place on 21 0May. Over 40 delegates from nearly as many branches attended the session in the Windsor Hall.

National Officer Simon Sapper gave the audience a crash course in the how decisions are made, and the roles of key players at Conference - the President, Executive, general Secretary, Officers, Standing Orders Committee, Stewards and, of course, most importantly, delegates themselves.

Kevin Slocombe then shared his experiences of speaking at conference and how to make sure new delegates aren't flummoxed by microphones, lights, the rostrum or their own voices!

0Helped by representatives fro the various advisory committees, the new delegates then took their turns to speak from the rostrum - and all did so with great style and clarity. Pictures are available elsewhere on the website, and CWUYouth's "Rough Guide to Conference" will be available soon at www.cwuyouth.org/resources - although it will need to be amended in the light of the wide-ranging rule changes agreed at the Special Rules Revision Conference on 22 May. 0
