Calling All CWU Cyclists: Solidarity through Cycling

On Saturday 3rd September the 5th annual CWU Cyclo Sportive event is taking place at Alvescot Lodge and with all proceeds going towards the International Trade Union Solidarity (ITUS), it's your last chance to sign up!

If you enjoy cycling and are inspired by the likes of Mark Cavendish in the Tour de France this year, you may be feeling encouraged to get back on your bike. If so, we can provide the perfect opportunity for you to take part in a friendly organised ride.

Trish Lavelle, Head of Education and Training, says: "Whether you are a complete beginner, or a club cyclist, this event offers a great day out on two wheels, trade union comradeship and a chance to cycle through fantastic countryside. All for a very important cause.

"Last year we raised over £2000 for the CWU International Development Fund as CWU activists and many other trade unionists cycled through the Cotswolds on a glorious day in September."

Further information

This year there will be an 80 mile ride for experienced riders, a 50 mile intermediate route and an 18 mile leisure ride for all abilities. There is limited availability of Bed and Breakfast accommodation on the 2nd and 3rd September or free camping for riders in the grounds of Alvescot Lodge. Starting at 10.30, the routes will be clearly signposted with a map provided, a support vehicle, checkpoints and feed stations en route. Riders will have access to pre ride catering and post ride showers. We have organised a BBQ after the event on 3rd September to which all riders are invited.

0Advice and information will be sent out when we have received your application. The entry fees for the 80 mile and 50 mile rides is £20 and for the 18 mile ride is £15.

Help us to support the ITUS cause and make this year even more of a success by distributing this information to any cyclists in your branch and by agreeing to sponsor an entry from your branch.
