1 December - The Day Rosa Parks stood Up for her Rights
Rosa Louise Parks was
nationally recognized as the "mother of the modern day civil
rights movement" in America. Her refusal to surrender her seat
to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, December 1,
1955, triggered a wave of protest December 5, 1955 that
reverberated throughout the United States. Her quiet courageous act
changed America, its view of black people and redirected the course
of history.
"I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free... so other people would be also free. " Rosa Parks

The CWU's Race Advisory Committee (RAC) (formerly the Ethnic Minorities Advisory Committee) was set up over 15 years ago to advise the CWU's National Executive Council (NEC) on issues relating to race in or out of the workplace. The RAC meet 4 times a year and its members are elected at the CWU's Annual Conference. The Committee sets it's priorities for the year and then splits up into Working Parties in order to follow up these priorities.
