CWUYouth at Annual Conference - UMF YES Project Fringe Meeting

23 May 2010

UMF YES Project Fringe Meeting Report - Sunday, 23rd May 2010

The final report from the Union Modernisation Funded Youth Empowerment Strategy (YES) was well received at a conference fringe meeting today.

Outgoing YES Project Worker Steve Ratcliffe demonstrated how the majority of milestones in the £145K, 2 year project had been met. "We now know more about our youth movement and what does and does not work than ever before", Steve said.

The General Secretary's address paid tribute to the hard work that had gone into the project and the benefits it had generated for the CWU - both in terms of our reputation and practically, through the development of a bespoke all-encompassing website.

Project Manager Simon Sapper identified some key areas for ongoing work, including consolidating progress in regional youth committees, making these committees work more efficiently with the national YAC (and vice-versa) and dismantling barriers that exist in some branches to the involvement of Branch Youth Officers.
