CWU Youth Conference 2012

The seventh annual CWU conference was held at the offices of the Birmingham and District Amalgamated Branch and 14 January 2012.

Nearly 100 delegates, visitors and observers attended, representing 41 branches. I am pleased to report that there were delegates from all 10 regions of the CWU. A number of delegates were attending a CWU national event for the first time and an even larger number spoke at the CWU national event for the first time.

Amongst our guest speakers were General Secretary Billy Hayes (whose speech can be found on his blog by clicking here), Tom Watson MP and Ernie Purkiss from the CWU Retired Members' Advisory Committee.

The conference decided that motions 4 (national youth demonstration) and 21 (Palestinian statehood) should be forwarded to the General Conference. The conference also elected David Chivers and Ian Emms to be their delegates to General Conference.
